And the 2022 ACS Astrochemistry Outstanding Dissertation Award 🏆 goes to…

The recipient of the 2022 ACS Astrochemistry Outstanding Dissertation Award is our group member and PostDoctoral researcher Dr. Joan Enrique-Romero for his PhD thesis dissertation entitled «Surface chemistry of molecules of astrophysical interest: theory and simulations» (link). Joan developed his PhD thesis in the «Institut de Planétologie et Astrophysique de Grenoble» (France) and the «Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona» (Spain) under the supervision of Cecilia Ceccarelli and Albert Rimola in the «Dawn of Organic Chemistry» (visit DOC’s web page here) and the «Quantum Grain» groups.

Most of the QUANTUMGRAIN members attended and participated in the Workshop in Interstellar Matter 2021, a hybrid event organized by the Naoki Watanabe’s Group of the Institute of Low Temperature of Sapporo (ILTS). Very interesting meeting.
Let’s see if next time we can attend in person!
Supporting Letters to COMPUTASTROCAT
Supporting letters to Heterogeneous Astrocatalysis of Space-Abundant Transition Metals. A Computational
Approach (COMPUTASTROCAT). Project led by Dr. Albert Rimola and submitted to the “Proyectos de Generación de Conocimiento” call in the framework of Plan Estatal de Investigación Científica y Técnica y de Innovación 2021-2023.
From Prof. Martin R. S. McCoustra:
From Prof. Ceccarelli Cecilia:
Congratulations Joan!!!
Our member, Joan Enrique-Romero, has defended successfully his PhD thesis entitled «Surface chemistry of molecules of astrophysical interest: theory and simulations» in cotutelle and supervised by Cecilia Ceccarellia (Univ. Grenoble) and Albert Rimola (Univ. Autònoma de Barcelona). Great thesis, great defense and… great party afterwards!
QuantumGrain participates in the ICCSA 2021 Conference
The group has participated in the International Conference on Computational Science and its Application held in Cagliari 13-16 September.
Two of our members, Berta Martínez-Bachs and Jessica Perrero, gave a talk about their latest work.
QuantumGrain participates (and gives lessons) in the 2nd ACO network school
QuantumGrain has attended the 2nd ACO network school which was held in Padova (12-16 July 2021), where our PI gave a beautiful lesson on theoretical calculations for astronomers. Fruitful (and funny) time with great young (and not so young) scientists!
QuantumGrain participates in the ACO-DOC Congress
The group has participated in the ACO-DOC congress entitled «Chemical processes in Solar-type star forming regions» which was held in Torino 13-17 September 2021. It’s been a honor to attend this excellent conference. Meeting with friends and discussing with colleagues after this long time has been a real pleasure!
We are hiring! One PhD position is available
Scope: Simulations of Molecule Formation on Interstellar Grain Surfaces
Objectives: to simulate by means of computational chemistry and molecular modelling methods processes occurring on the surfaces of interstellar grains, in particular those that lead to the formation of astrochemcially-relevant molecules.
